Steps to Take After an Arrest
The moments following an arrest are critical and confusing. Staying calm and remembering a few key steps can protect your rights and your future defense.
Remain Silent
We cannot stress this enough: do not discuss the details of the incident with police. Simply state clearly that you are exercising your right to remain silent and that you wish to speak to an attorney.
Do Not Resist
Resisting arrest can lead to additional charges and physical harm. Comply with physical instructions (like "turn around") but do not comply with requests to answer questions or consent to searches without legal counsel.
